single mom to 1 hopefully 2 soon (and different donors)

Postby pequele » Wed Sep 08, 2010 7:29 pm

Hi!
I'm a single mommy to my little guy 22 mo old. I am trying for #2. Going to have to use a new donor now as I had 1 vial left of my son's donor, got preggers but then mc. His donor is retired now and I can't locate any other vials. Being the age I am (37) I don't want to shell out the bucks to have them search for him and have to wait a minimum of 6 months for samples to be ready. If I was younger I'd give it a try but with 2 mcs under my belt I can't imagine!

So I'm in search of donor #2, I'm sad I can't give a full sib to my little guy, but I guess the world will go on. My question is, are there any other single moms out there who used 2 different donors? Did you have any reservations doing it?

Thanks!!!

I'm a SMC who used a different donor. I too, was bummed out when my previos donor (result of my 3 yr old daughter) was forced to retire due to medical issues, therefore all his left vials were destroyed. I was devestated but it's all good!! My first donor was from Fairfax and 2nd was from CLI. I have 1 yr old bpy/girl twins as a result of donor #2 and they just adore their older sister! Although they are not full siblings, they all have the same momma, that is key! I look at it like this....if I had adopted kids, they would all still be brothers and sisters no matter what genetic make up!! :)

So very true Aimee. I know the end result of having more than 1 kiddo (omg I think I'll freak if I have twins and will need some serious Valium!) is all I want!

What did you do when you found out twins the second time around??? :o

I was hoping for twins with round #1 so I would not have to try again, you know 2 for the price of 1! Ha! I pretty much freaked a bit when I found out I was having twins with my 2nd pregnancy. I was 8 weeks along and it was a cold February and I literally had to turn on the AC in my car! Ha! When I found out I was having a boy and a girl, I was elated as my daughter will now have a sister & a brother! :) It's definitely hard (and don't have help) but where there's a will there's a way!

I am a single mom (43 now) to a 21 month old daughter.

I'd love to have a second, but may well be too old to make it worth a try financially. I'm not really ready for another yet. Maybe when my daughter is approaching school age.

It seems a bummer. I'm just embarking on that part of my life where I'd like to be thinking family, and yet I'm on the verge of being too old.

Guess I'm lucky I had the one.

I have two vials of her donor left in storage which I would use if I try again. That donor also left the program, so those vials are the only ones left.

Good luck,
Cathy

Hello single moms. I recently gave birth to baby #1 through IVF. He is a joy, love of my life.

I am taking care of my son by myself. I love every second of it, but will admit it can be challenging (I also work full time). I would LOVE to have another child at some point, and for my son to have a siblinng. Also, my IVF cycle resulted in 8 addtional embryos that are currently frozen and I think about those babies every day.

How did you make the decision to have a second baby as a single mother? My primary worry is that a new baby would take time away from my son, and vice versa. What have your experiences been, or what gave you the strength to make this decision?

Thanks for any guidance.
Grateful Mommy

Aimee.....what do you know about trying to find retired donors? How much does it cost to find a donor that's not active anymore? I have a child through a donor however just realized he is retired. We had two specimens left of his, and just underwent 2 IUI's but it failed. I would love to give my child a biological brother or sister and am willing to pay to get more specimens. If you could give me some answers of what you know that would be great!

I started when I was 38 and had #1 when I was 40. Then #2 after 18 tries and some miscarrages when I was 45. I wanted a #3 but then was diagnosed with 1st stage kidney cancer. I waited a couple years to make sure it was not going to pop up metastasized and then did IVF and got twins at 50. My 1st 2 boys are full sibs but my 2nd 2 are actually biological cousins as I used an egg donor and my brother's sperm. So just go for it. Each child will have his or her own personality regardless of their genealogy. I find they are all just my boys.
